FIELD NOTES FROM THE SEA FARMS

liz johndrow, atlantic sea farms seaweed supply & advancement manager

“One 40ft boat (the F/V Miss Madyson), two skiffs, four chilly (and still smiling) crew and 13,000ft of inoculated kelp spools makes for a successful day of kelp farm seeding! Farmers Scott Lord (right) and Greg Morris (back) have been friends since high school and are both commercial lobstermen in midcoast Maine who decided to diversify into kelp farming to help support their independent marine businesses.

This is Scott and Greg’s third season kelping with ASF and they are excited to continue working closely with their families on the water for many years to come. You’re almost guaranteed to find Scott’s wife Christina (also pictured), working on the water along with both Scott & Greg’s kids.

Families that fish together, now also farm together!

After a full day of seeding we were rewarded with a beautiful sunset when we got back to the dock. We collectively decided it was our thank you from Mother Nature for all our hard work towards a more sustainable future. Go team kelp!”
