UMAMI BROWNIES

Umami brownies made with kelp

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon Atlantic Sea Farms Kelp Powder (optional for extra umami flavor)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 4 Atlantic Sea Farms Kelp Cubes, thawed under warm water for 10 minutes or so, until softened and able to be scooped out of their trays

STEPS:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch (23×23 cm) baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and optional Kelp Powder.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, kelp cubes, and milk. Whisk until well blended.
  4. Combine the wet ingredients mix slowly into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined into a batter.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  6. Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into squares and serve.
